UNESWA hosts the first series of Professorial Inaugural Lectures

Professorial Inaugural lectures are highly significant to academic institutions. They provide newly appointed Professors the opportunity to inform colleagues, students and the general public of their work.

The University of Eswatini hosted its first series of inaugural lectures at the Ligcabho LemaSwati Sports Emporium at the Kwaluseni Campus on 15 and 17 October 2019. The lectures were given by two Professors on the following topics:

Professor Carolyn Harford – African Languages and Generative Grammar

Professor Micah Masuku – Do Institutions matter for Agricultural and Economic Growth in Eswatini

Inaugural lectures are given by newly promoted professors at universities all over the world and this first series at UNESWA had an impressive attendance. Some of the benefits of hosting an Inaugural lecture are that the new professor celebrates an important personal milestone with family, friends and old plus new colleagues and such a lecture also presents an opportunity for the university to recognize and showcase the academic achievements of its staff.

Speaking during the lectures, Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Pinkie Zwane, said these lectures were a milestone for the University as it had come of age to have such lectures for staff promoted to the pinnacle of the academic ladder.
