Huawei Technologies Eswatini Handover Ceremony for Ten Laptops and Smart Board to UNESWA

KWALUSENI – Huawei Technologies Eswatini held a handover ceremony for ten laptops and a Smart board to UNESWA on 03 November 2023 at the New Wing, Refectory, Kwaluseni.  The donation worth over E250,000 was handed over by Huawei Technologies Eswatini CEO, Mr Bao Zheng to the Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Henry Gadaga who received it on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. 

In his welcome remarks, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Gadaga (reading the Vice Chancellor’s speech) mentioned that the ceremony was a very important occasion to celebrate the “strengthening of the partnership between the University of Eswatini and Huawei Technologies.  I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to Huawei for the generous donation of a Smart board and 10 laptops worth over 250,000.00 Emalangeni.”

Professor Gadaga thanked Huawei for being a faithful partner to the University of Eswatini especially during difficult times when resources were hard to come by. He also welcomed Mr Bao Zheng Chris, the new CEO of Huwawei Eswatini.  He further commended Huawei’s commitment to developing ICT skills in Eswatini.  “Though the Huawei ICT Academy and the successful Graduate Internship Training program for our graduates, Huawei has played an instrumental role in cultivating exceptional ICT talent.”

In his handover speech, Mr Bao Zheng Chris mentioned that the partnership with the University was three years old and that Huawei only partnered with world class institutions.  He mentioned that Huawei was devoted to cultivating talent in Eswatini in the ICT sector.  He mentioned how Huawei had facilitated trainings, examinations and competitions for Emaswati through the Huawei Academy.  He mentioned that they would be running a third competition in Eswatini and in the past a Swazi student won a third prize.

The Representative of the Ministry of ICT Principal Secretary, Mr Bonga Ndlangamandla, articulated that the Ministry of ICT appreciated the kindness displayed by Huawei.  “The donation will go a long way in empowering students with knowledge to improve the ICT industry.  It is pleasing to the Ministry to see industry and academia working together.  We are also grateful to note that Huawei supports the University on an annual basis.”

Professor Sandile Motsa, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering thanked Huawei for the partnership and for the Huawei Academy.  He mentioned that three cohorts of students have graduated from the Huawei Academy and some have been employed in the telecommunications industry of the country.  He also thanked the University Management for all the support accorded to the Faculty.  He concluded by appreciating all those that had attended the function.

Mr Wiseman Nyembe, the Head of Electrical and Electronic Department thanked Huawei for the donation and mentioned that it would be instrumental in teaching computer network courses and training provided through the Huawei Academy.  He mentioned that with the type of equipment that had been donated, it would be easy for Huawei experts to give lectures and distance will no longer be a barrier.
