Qualification and Experience:
  • An Upper Class Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/ Business Administration or a relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  • A registered Chartered Accountant (CA, CIMA, ACCA) from a recognized institution;
  • Relevant experience of ten (10) years with at least five (5) years in an Executive position;
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong strategic planning and problem-solving skills; and
  • Commitment to integrity, ethics and accountability in financial management.

 

Duties:

 

  1. Overseeing and directing the accounting functions of the University;
  2. Formulating investment strategies and policies to optimize the University’s financial resources and reserves;
  3. Conducting financial analysis and forecasting to inform decision making and resource allocation;
  4. Developing and implementing financial strategic plans to support the University’s vision, mission, goals and objectives;
  5. Formulating accounting/financial policies and regulations;
  6. Monitoring investment performance and risk exposures, adjusting strategies as needed to achieve desired outcomes;
  7. Managing all University accounts;
  8. Ensuring compliance with accounting principles, regulatory standards and government financial regulations;
  9. Ensuring compliance with internal control policies and procedures promoting accountability and transparency in financial operations;
  10. Serving as a strategic advisor to senior management, offering financial expertise and guidance on key initiatives and projects of the University;
  11. Leading the annual budgeting process, working collaboratively with departmental heads in receiving departmental budget estimates and compiling the institution’ budget for presentation to the Finance Committee and Council;
  12. Ensuring that budgetary allocations align with strategic priorities and regulatory requirements;
  13. Coordinating external audits in the preparation of audited accounts of the University;
  14. Implementing appropriate financial controls and mitigation strategies to safeguard University assets as the custodian of the University Assets;
  15. Providing leadership and direction to the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and continuous improvement;
  16. Developing performance contracts for the staff reporting directly to the Bursar’s office;
  17. Making annual appropriate recommendation to the Academic and Administrative Staff Committee on the performance of the staff under the supervision of the Bursar;
  18. Developing fundraising initiatives for implementation by the University; and
  19. Exercising any other such powers and duties as may be assigned to him by the Vice Chancellor.

Appointment Terms:

 

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package which will be determined by the University Council. The appointment will be for a period of three (3) years subject to a possibility for renewal based on performance.
