Work on the Motsepe Project Site officially Commences at the Kwaluseni Campus

KWALUSENI – On Wednesday 8 November 2023, a brief ceremony was held at the Kwaluseni Motsepe Project Site was held to mark the official beginning of the construction work of classes which is expected to take 18 months. 

Present at the Ceremony was the:

* Chairman of Council, Chief Mkhumbi,

* Vice Chancellor, Professor Justice Thwala,

members of Council –

  • Mr Musa Mdluli,
  • Mr Bheki Ndzinisa and
  • Professor Sandile Motsa and the
  • Acting Librarian, Mr Abahle Thwala.

The Programme Director was the University’s Physical Planner, Mr Phillip Mamba.

Mr Charles Sacolo represented the Physical Planning architecture section

In his remarks, the Chairman of Council expressed his joy in that the anticipated and much talked about project beginning and hoped that all will go according to plan.

Also on site were personnel from:

* Manyatsi-Nhleko Quantity Surveyors Mr Zacharia Nhleko and Mr Elton Mngometulu,

* Mr Mcebo Maziya and Mr Siboniso Khumalo Project Managers who will work at no cost to the University who have been contracted by Manyatsi-Nhleko Quantity Surveyors. 

* Seno Construction represented by Mr Phiwa Bulung

Mr Maziya from the Project Management Team mentioned that they were grateful for being appointed Project Managers and seeing the project officially taking off the ground.  The first phase would include removing the top soil and digging the foundation. 

Since work had officially begun, the site would be cordoned-off and every two weeks there will hold meetings with the Contractor and give the University reports.  Certificates for payment would be handed to the University each time payment was due and should be settled within 30 days.  He noted that money was the life line of the project.  They undertook to give the University cost reports with certificates up to the end of the project.
