  • Job Title: Graduate Trainee -Technologist (Animal Nutrition)
  • Department: Animal Science

Qualification and Experience:
  • A Bachelor of Science in Animal Science or a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Animal Science option).
Duties:
  1. To set up equipment and apparatus and assist in the running of practical sessions, lectures and seminars;
  2. To demonstrate and supervise laboratory and on-farm practicals;
  3. To provide technical assistance to academic staff and students in their entrepreneurial and research projects and assist with invigilation of tests;
  4. To assist with preparation of practical material/manuals;
  5. To collect animal feed resources and formulate/process supplementary feeds;
  6. To carry out animal feed budget and source feed ingredients;
  7. To evaluate animal feeds through laboratory and on-farm trials;
  8. To carry out minor repairs and fault finding on equipment;
  9. To refer major repairs to maintenance engineers from equipment suppliers/agents;
  10. To manage a proper inventory record of equipment, instruments, teaching and research materials;
  11. To prepare requisitions for acquiring laboratory and on-farm supplies;
  12. To produce periodic reports of all animals and on-farm supplies;
  13. To assist the Department in the choice of new types of equipment, methods modifications for existing equipment, servicing and related management activities;
  14. To ensure that comprehensive equipment inventory is made available to the Supervisor at the beginning of each semester and updated at the end of the semester.
  15. To plan and supervise co-ordinated use of equipment/facilities with other departments.
  16. To be responsible for the daily welfare of all farm animals and their records;
  17. To supervise and coordinate the duties of subordinate staff members;
  18. To dispose of any hazardous waste and chemicals according to the required standards;
  19. To ensure safety precautions and security of lab apparatus and general equipment in adherence to ISO standards;
  20. To clean glassware and experimental houses; and
  21. To carry out any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.

 

Other Attributes:
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal and leadership skills.
Appointment Terms:

Two-year training programme.
