Qualification and Experience:
- A PhD in Education/Distance Education/Education Planning or related field.
- Candidate should hold the rank of Associate Professor or above.
- Demonstrable experience in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) or relevant qualification in ODL.
- At least ten (10) years University/College teaching experience.
- At least five (5) years working experience in a Distance Learning Organization will be an added advantage.
- Management
- To lead the Institute and coordinate its core units;
- To work collaboratively with Deans and Heads of Departments in programme and curriculum development, accreditation and review;
- To supervise and mentor IDE staff to ensure efficiency in admissions, registration, assessment, examinations and student records management;
- To represent IDE in University structures such as Senate and Admissions Committee;
- To chair the IDE Academic Board and Executive Committee on academic and operational matter;
- To oversee staff performance, professional development and grievance-handling processes in line with University policies;
- To promote student engagement and inclusive decision-making within the Institute and wider University; and
- To establish and maintain regional teaching and/or learning centres.
- Programme Design
- To drive the development of innovative credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing programmes aligned with national and regional development priorities, ensuring equivalence and parity of standards between full-time and ODL/online programmes;
- To oversee the running of academic programmes and course offered by the Institute; and
- To champion the integration of educational technology, digital innovation, and quality assurance in distance education delivery.
- Partnership and Resource Mobilisation
- To drive resource mobilisation, fundraising and partnership development to support the Institute’s sustainability and growth;
- To liaise with outside bodies and organizations to get appropriate facilities for the programmes; and
- To network with other Distance Learning Institutes.
- Research and Community Service
- To conduct research related to Open, Distance and Blended Learning;
- To keep abreast with the latest trends in Open, Distance and Blended Learning; and
- To engage in Community Service.
- To perform any other related duties assigned by the Vice Chancellor or Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic)
- A strong record of relevant scholarly publications;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and change management skills;
- Visionary leadership and strategic thinking;
- Commitment to widening access, equity and inclusion in higher education;
- Strong networking abilities with local and international partners;
- Capacity to lead innovation in ODL, blended and online learning environments; and
- Financial acumen and the ability to attract funding and manage budgets effectively.
Two-year contract with a possibility for renewal by mutual consent subject to satisfactory performance.
