Qualification and Experience:
  • At least a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology/Counselling/Guidance and Counselling or a related field.
  • A PhD in Educational Psychology/Counselling/Guidance and Counselling or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • A qualification in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in providing academic, career and personal counselling services in a higher education or distance learning context.
  • Familiarity with psychosocial and mental health issues affecting university students.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding of student support needs in an Open and Distance Learning environment.
  • Knowledge of ODL systems and student engagement strategies.
Duties:
  1. To provide academic guidance and counselling to IDE students;
  2. To offer career guidance and counselling to prospective students;
  3. To deliver psychoeducation and wellbeing sessions to enhance students’ mental health;
  4. To provide individual counselling, referrals and follow-up support on mental health-related issues;
  5. To coordinate the orientation programmes for new IDE students;
  6. To guide students on effective communication channels within the University;
  7. To liaise with students in the election and management of their representatives;
  8. To engage student representatives to ensure that student concerns are acknowledged and addressed;
  9. To communicate with course lecturers and tutors regarding student social issues impacting academic performance; and
  10. To perform any other related duties as assigned by the Director, IDE and/or Dean of Student Affairs.

 

Appointment Terms:

Two-year contract with a possibility for renewal by mutual consent subject to satisfactory performance.
