UNESWA Launches the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Research (C3SR)

The University of Eswatini (UNESWA) today marked a significant milestone with the official launch of the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Research (C3SR) at the Kwaluseni Campus. The Centre is set to serve as a vital national platform for research, innovation, and collaboration, bringing together government, academia, industry, and development partners to advance science-driven solutions to the pressing challenges of climate change and sustainability.
The launch was attended by several high-ranking officials and partners, including the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Hon. Jane M. Mkhonta, and the Director representing the Honourable Minister of Education and Training. Also in attendance was the UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Henrik Franklin, representing the UN Resident Coordinator, alongside the Director of Research, Science, Technology and Innovation (RSTI), Dr. Rejoice Maseko, and various institutional partners. Through the establishment of the C3SR, UNESWA reaffirms its commitment to generating local knowledge, strengthening national research capacity, and contributing to the sustainable development of both Eswatini and the wider region.
During the ceremony, the UNESWA Vice Chancellor—represented by the Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. T.H. Gadaga—emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative, stating: “This milestone not only strengthens the university’s research capacity, but also creates a vibrant platform for science, policy, and society to work together in addressing one of the greatest challenges of our era.”
As the university embarks on this transformative journey, we remain confident that the Centre will inspire excellence and drive a tangible, positive impact. Together, we are working toward securing a more resilient and sustainable future for the Kingdom of Eswatini.
