Handover Ceremony for the new Sheep Blood Donation Centre and a Renovated Laboratory
Today, the University of Eswatini (UNESWA), Luyengo Campus, held the official Handover Ceremony for the new Sheep Blood Donation Centre and a Renovated Laboratory, marking a major national milestone in combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
This new centre is more than infrastructure—it is a critical national asset that fully aligns with Eswatini’s One Health strategy, supporting public, animal, and environmental health by ensuring a stable supply of quality-assured sheep blood for essential bacteriological testing. Access to reliable laboratory inputs is the cornerstone of accurate diagnosis and effective antimicrobial stewardship.
A heartfelt thank you to the Fleming Fund (UK) for the generous investment, and to ICAP at Columbia University for their technical leadership. We also deeply appreciate the partnership with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy.
UNESWA is committed to the sustainable management of this centre, applying international quality standards, and leveraging this facility to advance hands-on training, research, and service delivery.
